Sprirtual Warfare

First I must apologize for not writing regularly on this site for a few months. I have been floundering in my writing, trying to find a focus. Now I finally know what I am to write about. For the next several weeks I will be writing a weekly devotional dealing with the spiritual battle we face daily.  Today is the introduction to this series. I hope you will continue reading and at the end leave your comments.

Everywhere we look there are battles going on: battles in other countries, with the weather, with making a living and paying the bills, battles within families. The list could go on and on.

We can prepare for these battles and do our best to overcome them. However, there is also a war going on we can’t see. Spiritual battles are taking place all around us. The prince of darkness is working overtime trying to steer us away from God. He doesn’t want us attending church, reading our Bibles, and following God’s way of loving others. Satan’s forces are constantly at work. We never know when we will become targets of his invasion. How can we prepare to fight this evil?

Paul tells us how in Ephesians 6:13-18, “Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the Belt of Truth buckled around your waist, with the Breastplate of Righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace. In addition to all this, take up the Shield of Faith, with which you can extinquish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep praying for all the saints.”

God is not going to let us stand in the middle of this war zone unprotected. He has prepared for us armor to cover from head to toe.

Before fighting a battle, the soldier goes through extensive training. If we are to be prepared to fight Satan we need to learn how each element of God’s armor works.  This series will explore the six elements of the armor of God, plus prayer. Equip yourself. The battle is upon us.

(The New International Version of the Bible will be used for all Scripture passages.)
