Guided By The Spirit (The Sword of the Spirit)

” Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” Romans 8:5

There are some people who claim to be Christian, but you would never know it by their actions. How can a person have Christ in his/her life and yet lie, cheat, drink to excess, be sexually promiscuous?

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8 if we truly have Christ in us His Spirit would be guiding our thoughts and actions. We won’t want to do the things listed above. Who or what controls our minds? We need to examine that question. Are our minds focused on things of this world, with all its so-called pleasure? Or are our minds set on the Spirit of God? Our hearts were given to God when we accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. Each of us must answer this question, “Have we given our minds to Him as well?”

Therein lies the battle. Satan wants to keep messing with our minds. He wants to fill our minds with all sorts of questions and temptations. He desires to make us doubt and second-guess God. The devil doesn’t want us to totally give ourselves to God. He longs for a little crack, a small opening, to remain so he can keep chipping away to play his mind games.

How can we fight Satan from getting into our heads? By arming ourselves with the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, a very powerful weapon. This SWORD is the Word of God. Read and study the Bible daily. Commit verses to memory. Exercise the mind with thoughts of God. He has put this weapon at our disposal. We are to claim it and use it mightily.

APPLICATION:  Make a commitment to memorize one new Bible verse each week.
