Know The Lord’s Will (The Sword of the Spirit)

armor-of-god “Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:17

You are searching the Want Ads for a new job. You read the description of what the job entails and what qualifications are needed to do the work. You know before applying what the employer’s will is in filling this position. A salesman is not going to apply for a nurse’s job. That would be foolish.

God has a plan for our lives. His will is revealed to us through the Holy Spirit and through Scripture. As a person studies job postings to find out what employers want, we need to study the Bible in order to learn what God wants.

The devil has a will for us, too. However, his plans lead to destruction. When we begin to feel his push on us to join his work force we must grab the only weapon mentioned in the list of items which comprise the armor of God. That weapon is the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is the word of God.

How can we combat Satan’s will with the Lord’s will if we don’t know that the Lord’s will is? The evil one is hoping we don’t know what God’s plans are for us. He attempts to confuse us into thinking his plan is better. The more we know what the Bible says the stronger the SWORD becomes. We must call on the Holy Spirit when times are rough and the devil is banging on our door trying to convince us his will is the way to go.

Cling to God’s word. Know what He tells us in the Bible. There is not a more powerful weapon than the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, but we need to learn how to use it to bring out its full might against Satan. If we fight evil using God’s word we will never be defeated. We must understand what God’s will is.

APPLICATION: Join a small group Bible study and learn what God’s will is for you.
