The Lord Is With Me (The Shield of Faith)

armor-of-god “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; He is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.” Psalm 118:6-7

John and his co-workers are being unfairly treated. They don’t have a union to fight for them. John decides he’s had enough. He talks with the other workers and they say they’re behind him 100%. It’s time to approach the boss with their grievances. “Is this how you all feel”?, says the boss after John’s presentation. John expects to hear a roar of solidarity. Instead he could’ve heard a pin drop. No one says a thing.

We can not always depend on co-workers, family, or friends to stand with us when we are fighting for a cause. Humans are fickle. We talk big, but don’t necessarily follow through when it’s time for action.

In our battle against the devil all our big talk doesn’t count for anything. We need to take action. If we can’t depend on others to fight with us what can we do? We can grip the SHIELD OF FAITH. We are not alone standing against Satan. Verse 8 of Psalm 118 says, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”

The SHIELD God provides for us serves as a reminder of where our faith should lie. It’s always better to face a battle with the force of numbers. However, sometimes the spiritual battle we are experiencing is only unique to us at the time. That’s when the SHIELD OF FAITH is especially helpful. Faith in God and His mighty power is what we need to obtain the courage to face the evil attacking us.

Our faith in God and what He can do is our strong SHIELD against anything Satan can propel at us. The stronger our faith, the stronger our SHIELD. If we ask the Lord to fight by our side He will not desert us when the battle gets hot and heavy. God is much more trustworthy than any person in our lives. Through faith we can rely on Him to be there as we take action.

APPLICATION: The devil’s handiwork can be seen all around us. Choose a moral cause you feel strongly about and take action. Write an editorial for the public comment section of your local newspaper. Contact government officials and let them know how you feel. The Lord will be right there with you.
