Jesus spent three years spreading the good news of salvation. He taught in the temple area, in the cities, out in the countryside. Many miracles were performed by him. He did nothing wrong. He only spoke the truth. Yet, he was crucified on a cross. Why?
The Old Testament tells us that year after year animals were sacrificed in the temple for the atonement of the people’s sins. Unblemished lambs were used. This sacrificing of lambs had to be repeated.
God had a plan. He sent Jesus, who committed no sin, to this earth. He became that unblemished lamb who was sacrificed. Blood had to be spilled to cover the sins of the people. Up to this point it was the blood of perfect lambs. God chose to have one sacrifice made to cover sins forever. This is why Jesus suffered on the cross. He took the punishment which should be ours. He paid the price once, for all. His blood was shed to cover all our sins. All we need to do is believe what he did and accept him as our savior.
Because of Jesus’ selfless sacrifice we have the HELMET OF SALVATION to wear in our fight against Satan. Once we are saved by God’s grace no one can take it from us. Satan will plant all sorts of doubts in our minds, trying to convince us that receiving salvation isn’t that easy.
That’s when we have to pull the HELMET OF SALVATION down tighter. Salvation is that easy. We can’t earn it. The devil, however, would like us to believe we have to work for it.
The truth is no matter how hard we try we can’t earn salvation. God knows that. That’s why he sent Jesus. Through his death and resurrection the penalty for our sins has been paid in full.
Wear the HELMET OF SALVATION. Remember Jesus’ suffering for us. Don’t let the doubts and lies of the evil one penetrate your mind. The HELMET will protect you.
What happened on the cross? Jesus gave you eternal life. Accept this gift from God and wear the HELMET proudly.
