Never Forsaken By God (The Breastplate of Righteousness)

armor-of-god“He will judge the world in righteousness; He will govern the peoples with justice. … Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:8 and 10

King David did not have an easy life. As a boy he fought off wild animals while shepherding his father’s sheep. Later, while serving under King Saul, he had to run for his life as Saul pursued to kill him. Then during his own reign as king, David experienced turmoil within his family and he gave in to temptation.

Yet David knew he could always turn to God whether it was to ask for help and comfort, to confess sins and ask for forgiveness, or to praise God for what He provided. David trusted God.

God will judge this world, but His judgment will be in righteousness. He will judge fairly and mercifully those who call on His name. But the wicked will be judged harshly. Their judgment will be of their own making.

The BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS should be a reminder of God’s judgment. A breastplate protects the heart. God’s righteousness is a stronghold, refuge, and protection for all believers.

David was not perfect by any means, but when he sinned he confessed it to God and asked for His help. He did not let the sin destroy his heart and soul. God did not turn away from David. No matter what, God was there to wrap His arms around David.

The BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS is God’s arms wrapped around us, protecting us. No enemy, even the devil himself, can prevail against that. Through the BREASTPLATE we have God’s power and judgment with us. We can count on God’s righteousness and know He will never forsake us when we call and cling to Him.

APPLICATION: If you are wrestling with the devil, cling to God. No matter the circumstances God will be there. His protection will not fail.
