Have Faith in the Coach (The Shield of Faith)

armor-of-godLet us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

The coach has worked out a new game plan and instructs his team regarding what formation they are to take to pull off the play. The team members have faith in their coach that the play he has prepared is the best move to make and they follow his lead.

We have a coach as well; one who has our best interest at heart. God became our coach when we made the decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. He plans the plays for our lives. As the team members have faith in their coach that he’ll do his best to help them win the game, our faith must be in God, the ultimate coach, believing He wants only the best for us.

The opposing team in a sporting event tries to do everything they can to score points and prevent the other team from doing so. Think of Satan as that opposing team. He is going to try everything he can think of to keep us from having the win with Jesus Christ. The devil will carry out all his sneaky plays in an attempt to weaken us.

Our coach has provided a strong defense, THE SHIELD OF FAITH. If we hold that SHIELD in front of us and follow the game plan God has prepared we’ll be able to defend against anything the evil one launches against us.

Our SHIELD becomes stronger as our faith in the Lord grows. We are not fighting this battle alone. There are other believers standing with us, holding up their SHIELDS OF FAITH, too. All of us working on the same game plan present a strong barrier that nothing evil can break through. We want our coach seeing us with SHIELDS high taking action.

As the coach is an ever-present force for the team, God is ever present as we fight the battle. He is along side us every step of the way, preparing new courses of action for us to take.

We are to “draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith”. (Hebrews 10:22) The SHIELD OF FAITH He has given us allows us to do just that. Our constant faith in the Lord is a mighty defense against Satan.

APPLICATION: Is God telling you to do something in order to combat an evil presence in your life? Embrace what He is telling you. He will provide the game plan for a strong defense.
