Are You Prepared For Your Toughest Battle?

Two armies face each other for battle. One army has guns. The other army has tanks and bombs. Which army is going to win?

We are in a battle. We’re facing the army of Satan every day. Satan’s army has all sorts of fire power ; super-natural power we mere humans cannot defend against. 1 Peter 1:24 says, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers falls.”  If we are as fragile as grass and flowers how can we possibly stand up to the forces of Satan?  The answer is in 1 Peter 1:25, “but the Word of the Lord stands forever.”

In Ephesians 6 Paul lists the pieces of the armor God has given us. Then in verse 17 he states the only weapon we need, “Take the helmet of Salvation and THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD.”

Satan has no power over the Word of God. We have a mighty sword at our disposal. Nothing Satan throws at us is a match to the Word of the Lord. By giving us the Bible, God has given us the most powerful weapon to use in our battle. Satan has no comeback, no defense against the truth found in Scripture.

However, we must be trained to use this weapon. It won’t do us any good to just have the Bible in our hands. When we go up against Satan we have to know what’s in the Bible. We cannot be ignorant. The Word of God is the ultimate weapon. It is our job to learn how to use it.

How often do you read the Bible?  Have you committed any verses to memory? All of us will be attacked by Satan at many points in our lives. Now is a good time to dig into God’s Word on a regular basis so you are prepared to fight when Satan attacks.

What’s The Most Powerful Weapon Christian Writers Can Use?

Everywhere we turn battles are being fought. Various wars are taking place around the world. Political parties clash with each other. Street gangs fight for their territories. Battles rage within families.

Another battle is being fought which we do not always see, but we know it’s happening. That battle is the spiritual one engaged with Satan. The ultimate war has already been won by God through Jesus Christ, but Satan doesn’t appear to realize it. He continues launching attacks on us, trying to get us to turn from God.

In Ephesians 6:10-17 Paul tells of the protection God has made available to us to fight these battles. We have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation. We are covered from head to toe with this mighty armor.

Then in verse 17 Paul lists the only weapon we need, “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  Satan has no defense against this weapon. This was demonstrated when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness. (Luke 4:1-13) Three times the devil tried to get Jesus to worship him and three times Jesus quoted Scripture. Satan had no response and he left.

Everyone can avail themselves of these pieces of armor and the strong weapon God provides to combat against Satan. Writers use words everyday to reach people. Christian writers have The Word and therefore can take a major role in the spiritual warfare. We can take the word of God and get it out to the masses. Our writing can bring the strength, peace, and healing of God to millions of people.

As writers we are God’s instrument to do His work. The sword of the Spirit is in our hands. We know how to make an impact with words. Let’s use the weapon at our disposal in a mighty fashion, defeating the devil with every word we write.

Thoroughly Equipped (The Sword of the Spirit)

armor-of-godAll Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3:16-17

No matter where you are employed there is most likely a book of policies and procedures for the company. This book is full of instructions so you know how to do your job and what the company expects.

The Bible is the book of policies and procedures for Christians. In our battle with evil the Bible is our SWORD OF THE SPIRIT. Through studying this Book we learn, by detailed instructions, how God wants us to live. Knowing this information becomes a powerful weapon equipping us with all we need to combat the devil.

The more we know the stronger THE SWORD becomes. We can rely on the promises given to us by God. Jesus Christ has already won the war and defeated Satan through His death and resurrection. The time will come when the devil will get what he deserves and will be thrown into the pit. In the meantime, we still have to deal with battles every day in this world. With the armor of God protecting us and THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT in hand we are thoroughly equipped to fight these battles.

Study the Scriptures. Learn all you can about God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The more you know the more difficult it is for Satan to win any of the battles. To be able to bring Scripture verses to mind when going through sorrow, temptations, and struggles provides inner peace and the courage to face whatever is being thrown at you.

The Word of God, our SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, is the only weapon we need in our battles with darkness. The Holy Spirit will help us remember the verses we’ve read and studied when we need them. Use THE SWORD, trust in its power and you will not be defeated.

APPLICATION: Begin the habit of reading your Bible daily. Set aside a particular time of day, each day, when you can be still to hear and read what God has to tell you. Make your SWORD OF THE SPIRIT stronger each day.

Fake or Real (The Belt of Truth)

armor-of-godLike a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good. …But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God, the eternal King. When He is angry the earth trembles; the nations cannot endure His wrath. Jeremiah 10:5 & 10

Have you noticed how many expensive items in stores have cheap copies? There are purses which look almost like Coach bags. You can find factory made copies of designer fashions. It didn’t take long after Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement that copies of the ring were found for sale online. If you are looking for the real thing you often have to examine the item closely to make sure it’s not an excellent copy.

In the Bible we are told of the idols worshipped by the pagans as if they were gods. Some of these idols were magnificent, made of gold, silver, and fine wood. But they were made by human hands and had no power.

Idol worship was so prevalent in the world that when God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses He included, “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in any form.”

The Almighty God of heaven and earth is the only one true God. He is the original. All others are fake. However, Satan wants us to think otherwise. He places doubts in our minds, making us question if there isn’t something else out there pulling all the strings.

The evil one tries to twist God’s words around in an attempt to get us to think we are in control of our destiny; that we are god of our own lives.

Therefore, it is extremely important that we put on THE BELT OF TRUTH. With it we can defend against Satan’s endeavors to place doubts. THE BELT allows us to distinguish between the true God and all the fakes which occupy the world. We can discern the truth from the devil’s lies. Satan is masterful at disguising cheap copies to look like the real thing. Don’t get pulled into the deception. Cling to THE BELT OF TRUTH. Through it God will always show you what is real.

APPLICATION: Examine your life. Are there idols you are “worshipping” in place of God? Some examples of these idols are money, prestige, material possessions, even yourself or other people. It’s time to clean house and place your focus on the only true God.

The Word Stands Forever (The Sword of the Spirit)

“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers, and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.”   I Peter 1:24-25

Two armies face each other for battle. One army has guns and swords. The other has tanks and bombs. Which army is going to win the battle? The one with the more powerful weapons, of course.

We are in a daily battle. We’re facing the army of Satan. The devil’s army is equipped with all sorts of “fire power”; super-natural power we mere humans cannot defend against. Peter tells us we are all like grass and flowers that wither away. How can we stand up to the forces at Satan’s disposal? Peter gives us the answer, “…but the word of the Lord stands forever.”

That word is our mighty weapon – THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT. All of Satan’s army, weapons, and shear force cannot stand when God speaks. God’s word is a powerful sword in our hands. Nothing the prince of darkness can throw at us is a match to the word of the Lord. By giving us the Bible God has given us His word to use in our spiritual battles. The devil has no comeback, no defense for the truth found in Scripture.

Do you know the Bible well enough to use it against Satan’s attacks? Do you have plenty of memorized verses you can recall to launch at the devil? Is your hand holding THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, ready to fend off the blows of the evil one?

Satan is not immortal. The time is coming when he will be destroyed. Only the word of the Lord stands forever.

APPLICATION:  Daily bring out your Bible. Read it. Be prepared to use this mighty weapon God has provided.
